Marriage

As she glanced over to the brown rattan table, she started to stare hard at the potrait located

above it. The potrait potrayed a new chapter to her life stories. Tales of joy, sorrow and laughter

experienced by all, yet it unfold in a different way for her.No matter how her life went, it shall be

her sole companion for her remaining lifespan. Sitting comfortably on her rocking chair, she let

her mind wandered off. The past memories left unsaid, but somehow it was more expressive on

the mind as it always play back those days, right in front of her. Then her eyes shifted to the

antique televison set, at the far end of the living room. She let her body felt the momentum of

the creaking rocking chair as she slumbered off peacefully.

As she walked away, the guy pulled her smooth hands. Then, she was pulled nearer to him.

Soon, their eyes met and she graciously looked away.

'' Will you promise to be with me until my ripe age and bless me with your pureness of love? ''

proposed the man, as he kneeled down with a ring on his other hand. She was flabbergasted and

speechless as happiness engulfed her.

'' Click, '' goes the television set. Min Hui got up from the floor and shoved her brother off. Without

delay, she pressed the button real hard and found that the show went for a commercial break.

'' What was that for? It was at the most romantic scene and you had to turn the television

off?! '' Min Hui marked. Her pesky brother just smirked at her without even feeling guilty of his

actions. Min Hui was about to start nagging at him when the show went back again. She sat down

instantly and glued to the television set all day.

Ever since the Lee family bought a television set, Min Hui kept herself occupied with the

love drama series which was on everyday.Being a teenager herself, Min Hui dreamt of marrying a

man of her dreams which turned out to be the hero of the drama series she was engrossed in.

She was eager to grow up as a lady and be loved by a man.

Marriage was a child ' s play to her.All this while, she was blinded by the sweetness of

marriage and overlooked the thorns of it. Soon, she was engaged to a man she felt in love with
in her adulthood, and finally got married. That ' s when the bad side of marriage fell on her, bits to

pieces. Having to face obstacles and conflicts, she braced herself through the tiring marriage life.

The man she was married too wasn ' t a mistake but having to spend the rest of her life with a man

and having great responsiblities as a wife and mother knocked some sense onto her.

Marriage is not the love drama series she watched everyday. In fact, it was far from

reality. She felt like she was completely lost in a different world. Her life drastically changed ever

since she heard the priest proclaimed her as the wife and had her first kiss.It was a day to

remember. It was a day she was looking forward to all her life. Now that it happened, she almost

regretted to be married off early. She agreed upon her parents decision for her to get married

quickly, at a tender age of 19.No matter what, she felt blessed to be paired up with a man who

was very faithful and loving. With the presence of her dearest husband and son, she felt that all

that she sacrificed was worthwhile.

As old Min Hui woke up from her nap, she looked over at the potrait once more. Then she

smiled, seeing herself in a family potrait taken 5 years before her husband and son lost their lifes

in a tragic accident.
